Discussion on the Influence of Window-wall Comparison on Energy Consumption and Natural Lighting of Traditional Houses

Abstract:
As a traditional residence in the Jiangnan region of China, Suzhou houses are still insufficient for energy-saving transformation and utilization of these traditional residential buildings due to a large number and a long period of construction, poor indoor comfort and high building energy consumption. As a part of the façade of the building, the window-to-wall ratio not only affects the natural lighting of the interior, but also relates to the energy consumption of the building. This paper takes the south-facing window of Suzhou Guoyunlou Exhibition Hall as the research object, and uses the parametric simulation tool ladybug to discuss the effects of the two types of windows on building energy consumption and natural lighting under different window-to-wall ratios. The results show that: 1) the energy consumption of the window of shape 2 is slightly greater than that of shape 1, and the window-to-wall ratio of the two is close to 50%, the change of indoor energy consumption tends to remain unchanged or decrease; 2) The windows of the two shapes have reached the lighting requirements when the window-to-wall ratio reaches 25%. Considering that the original house is used as a showroom after renovation, there is no special lighting demand, and the south-facing window wall is 25% more appropriate.
